IESL YMS Hackathon 2015 - 1st Runners Up
Institute of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) organizes a annual technological competition with the coorperation of University of Moratuwa in parallel to the annual Techno exhibition held at BMICH. IESL YMS Hackathon is the competition organized in year 2015. Proposals for the hackthon were called from all the universities in the island and 20 teams were selected for the final one day competition held at BMICH. Team size was limited to only 2 members and winners were selected by the live presentation and the demonstration of the product held at the end of the competition. 

I competed representing the team Envision with Madhawa Vidanapathirana. We, team Envision won the 1st Runners Up price among more than 20 teams. 
At this stage neither me or Madhwa didn't have much hackathon experience. Therefore, this hackathon was a relly challenges to both of us in programming, presentation and marketing perspectives. Due to the small team size of 2 members, we too had to do a huge work within a very limited amount of time to succees. But finally, we managed to win the 1st Runneers up place defeating the last year IESL Hackathon winners also. 

Our Product - Eagle Vision

The problems we addressed here are lack of a smart enough system to monitor taxis of taxi service companies, absence of an efficient system to allocate hires to taxis and reduce calling and SMS overhead for drivers and taxi service center operators  while minimizing the costs and maximizing the final profit. 

Out solution is using the driver' smartphone to track the taxis and their availabilty for hires. The same device is used for communication between drivers and the taxi operating center. In order to provide these features we provide the driver with an mobile application to be insatlled on his/her phone and another web application to be used at the taxi operator. Driver can set their status as available, going for hire, in hire and not in service. Depending on the state set, the location updates are sent to the central server automcatically. The web application can be used to moitor the drivers (taxis) and to find the optimal driver for new hire considering taxi;s state, location and some other factors. Drivers are automatically informed about new hires through the mobile application. Almost all messaging and calling overhead can be removed by deploying our system at taxi service providers. 

We implemented a working protype of the our solution and presented how our solution can impact the entire taxi service industry with revenus models. Our product was appreciated by  Mr. Arjuna Manamperi  and a few other judgers also.
