Life as an IEEEian

The Beginning
The first step to my IEEE life is taken with IEEE AGM in the year 2015. I just walked into the AGM with few of my friends with no big intentions. But at the end of the AGM, I was pretty much inspired by hearing the wonderful things which have been done by IEEE student branch and opportunities open to IEEEians. Therefore, I didn't want a second thought to starting a new journey with IEEE.
First volunteering experience
I started working for CodeExperts 3.0 as my first IEEE volunteering experience. CodeExperts is an annual coding competition organized by UoM IEEE student branch for school students, as a warm-up event for the IEEEXtreme. Ravidu Kumarasiri who was the secretary of UoM students branch at that time was the event chairman of Code Experts 3.0. He appointed me as the contact person for our batch for the event and made me the leader of all key organizing things. In addition to the competition, we conducted a Python workshop for school students also. Finally, Code Experts 3.0 was an immense success than ever before having 200+ participants for the competition from all over the country.

Secretary of IEEE Computer Society UoM
Appreciating my contribution for the IEEE student branch UoM, I was appointed as the secretary of the IEEE Computer Society UoM for the year 2016. Chathurka Dewapriya was the chairman of IEEE UoM students branch during that time period.
IEEEXtreme 10.0 & MoraXtreme 1.0
My next biggest involvement with IEEE is, I was appointed as the IEEEXtreme 10.0 event chair of UoM students branch which is the largest IEEE students branch of Sri Lanka. Actually, in addition to organizing IEEEXtreme, I was given the
responsibility to improve the branch's performance and the bring some top world ranks for UoM at IEEEXtreme 10.0. So for the first time, a workshop series was organized in order to gain student's knowledge in the algorithmic domain, problem-solving skills and programming skills. Totaly 4 workshops were conducted by seniors of the University of Moratuwa who came into the world top 10 ranks in past IEEEXtreme contests. The workshop series was followed by an IEEEXtreme like competition name which was names as MoraXtreme. Thus, I am proud to say that I was able to add a new event to the Uom student branch's annual events stack. Actually, my effort was an immense success by making a significant improvement in overall performance of UoM at IEEEXtreme 10.0.
MERCon 2016 & MERCon 2017
Moratuwa Engineering Research Conference (MERCon) is also annually organized by the Engineering Research Unit (ERU) of the University of Moratuwa in collaboration with IEEE students branch. I got the chance to volunteer for the organizing activities in both 2016 and 2017 years. Being a computer science undergraduate I was assigned the task of designing the souvenir CD also. I completed that task with my friend Anuradha Wickramarachchi and opened this project as  an open source project at Github  in order to use in upcoming years. Our contribution has also been mentioned in ieee.org as  Conference Proceedings and Artwork contributions.

Sri Lanka Young Professionals and Women in Engineering conference was held for the year 2016 at Waymba university. It was a 3-day event and was full of meetings, discussions and other entertaining activities.  Delegates from all the IEEE students branches of Sri Lanka participated in the event. Lifelong experience, knowledge and contacts you get to know at this conference are very useful.
